The best ways to improve exercise endurance

Building up your exercise endurance is a great way to get more from your workout. Exercising for longer can help to increase lean mass, promote good cardiovascular health, and maintain a healthy weight, but many of us find we’re getting tired long before we’re ready to finish. So how can we improve endurance?

Training & Exercise

One of the best ways to improve exercise endurance is simply to exercise! Getting started with a new exercise regime is often challenging, but becomes easier over time. That’s because regular exercise improves oxygen uptake, boosts muscle density, and decreases your heart rate while working out, so you’re able to run, swim, and lift for longer before you become tired. High-intensity training (HIT), which can be done in just a matter of minutes, is believed to be great for improving overall exercise endurance.

Diet & Supplements

There’s another way to help improve your exercise endurance, and that’s through your diet. Research shows that cold drinks and high glycemic foods like oats and pasta can help to improve endurance, but one of the most interesting research findings recently is that high fat intake before exercising can have a significant effect. Fat often gets a bad reputation, but ‘good’ fats can be very beneficial. Of course, a fatty meal before exercising isn’t recommended, which is why supplements like cod liver oil are so popular.

One of the most important things you can do is to take a little time to research the different types of supplements to discover what works, and what doesn’t. This is because some supplements that have a reputation for improving endurance might not be right for your specific needs. For example, creatine supplementation may not be as good for endurance as was once thought, while caffeine might provide an initial boost of energy, but could leave you feeling tired and lethargic later in your workout.
