Finding your way through the minefield of multivitamins

When it comes to multivitamins, there’s plenty to choose from, so how do you know which ones are right for you? Do you go for the cheapest supplements? The ones by your favourite brand? It can be confusing sometimes. That’s why we’ve created this handy multivitamin guide to help you out.

Men’s Multivitamins

Multivitamins for men will often include a selection of vitamins and minerals that support healthy secretion of male hormones. Zinc, for example, is understood to be good for maintaining steady levels of testosterone. ‘Standard’ vitamins for health will also be included, such as Vitamins A, B, and C.

Women’s Multivitamins

Multivitamins for women usually focus on vitamins that can be beneficial for bone health, such as Vitamins C, D, and K. This is because women are more susceptible than men to bone conditions, such as osteoporosis, which can occur in response to hormonal changes that happen during the menopause.

Kid’s Multivitamins

Multivitamins for children include a wide range of vitamins and minerals that are essential for energy production, bone health, and for rapidly growing bodies. These vitamins will often come in an easy-to-digest liquid form for very young children, and in chewable, flavoured pastilles for older kids.

Senior’s Multivitamins

Multivitamins for seniors are designed to meet the slightly different nutritional needs of older people. Most importantly, these multivitamins will not usually include iron. This is because iron supplementation can mask a deficiency, which is something that should always be checked in the over 50’s.

Skin & Hair Multivitamins

Multivitamins for hair and skin will often include plenty of antioxidants, like vitamins C and E. They may also include B complex vitamins, and sometimes even fatty acids, like Omega-3 fish oil. Although fat gets a bad reputation, unsaturated fats like Omega-3 can help breathe a new lease of life into skin and hair.
