Over the years, we’ve heard about celebrities using just about everything to keep themselves looking young, smooth, healthy, and radiant. From Katie Holmes’ placenta face creams and Gwyneth Paltrow’s bee sting treatments, to Kim Kardashian’s ‘vampire’ facelift and Victoria Beckham’s bird poo cleansers, there’s really nothing that shocks us anymore… or is there? Believe it or not, the latest trend amongst the A-listers is actually completely normal; vitamins! Finally, the celebs are getting back to basics. 

Famous Fans of Vitamins & Minerals 

It seems that Jennifer Aniston was one of the first to kick off the trend, telling People Magazine back in 2016 that she’s got a ‘healthy bag of vitamins’ that she takes ‘3 times a day’. Widely considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful women, and certainly more youthful than her 48 years, the vitamins definitely seem to be working. However, it’s not just the former Friends actress that can’t live without her vitamin C and omega 3 fatty acids. In fact, taking supplements is one of Hollywood’s hottest trends. 

For reality TV lovers, vitamins hit the headlines when Khloe Kardashian posted an Instagram photo of all the vitamins and minerals she was planning to take on holiday with her to Armenia to visit her father’s ancestral home. Khloe stated that she hoped the supplements would help her to continue leading a healthy lifestyle, even when she was away from Los Angeles. Singer Katy Perry posted a similar photo, showing off the vitamins and minerals that she consumes in the morning, afternoon, and before bed.

So what supplements are preferred by celebrities? What do they credit with helping to keep them looking their very best on the red carpet? Here are some supplements that they simply can’t do without: 

Chlorella 

Favoured by Victoria’s Secret angel (and former wife of Orlando Bloom) Miranda Kerr, chlorella is a type of green algae that is packed full of all sorts of beneficial nutrients, including amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. A natural anti-inflammatory, chlorella can help to minimise any inflammation which can result in redness and puffiness, and it’s also believed to help protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV light. Chlorella is available in tablet or capsule form, as well as a powder for adding to smoothies. 

Vitamin C 

One of the vitamins that Jennifer Aniston swears by, vitamin C plays a major role in dermatology. Not only is it a powerful antioxidant, which can reduce oxidative stress and lead to a more youthful appearance, it’s also great for reversing signs of hyperpigmentation in the skin, which can be caused by sun damage, or simply by the natural ageing process. Vitamin C also has anti-inflammatory properties, and may even help the body to produce collagen to minimise the appearance of wrinkles. 

Flaxseed 

Flaxseed is a firm favourite of actress Hilary Swank, who uses it to keep herself looking great. Studies show that flaxseed is very good at minimising skin sensitivities which can be caused by dryness, and which can lead to roughness and a scaly appearance if left untreated. Containing natural oils, flaxseed is also a very hydrating ingredient, and is the perfect option for helping to restore your skin’s moisture barrier if it's been compromised, which can happen quickly and easily in very cold, dry environments.

The secret to A-list skin? There is no secret. Even the celebs themselves, who have tried practically every treatment under the sun, are racing back to good old fashioned vitamins and minerals, which are tried and tested, and really do work. So if you’re looking to improve the appearance of your skin, don’t fall for the fad trends. Instead, simply include some vitamins and minerals in your daily diet. It’s easy.
