Magnesium is also found in nature. However, it generally exists as a compound here. For instance, magnesium chloride is a magnesium-based compound that is found in sea water. Similarly, you can also find magnesium based minerals in nature. For example, magnesite is one such mineral. It is an insoluble rock salt that also goes by its chemical name, ‘magnesium carbonate’.
What does Magnesium do?
Magnesium is linked to several functions within the cells of the human body. Without it, the body would lose the ability to produce energy and the muscles would be forced to remain contracted. The body would also lose its ability to regulate the production of cholesterol and its subsequent release into the blood stream.
There are around 300 biochemical reactions in the human body, which are controlled by magnesium ions as enzyme co-factors. Magnesium ions are also linked to the generation and usage of ATP. ATP is the cell’s most basic unit of energy.
Magnesium is generally used to treat magnesium deficiencies.
However, it has also been used to treat various other medical conditions. For instance, it has been prescribed as a laxative for treating constipation and as an antacid to treat indigestion. In the medical field, it is also used to prepare the bowels prior to a surgical procedure.
Patients suffering from heart-related conditions such as hypertension, chest pain, high bad cholesterol, irregular heartbeat, and low good cholesterol have also been known to benefit from magnesium.

• Similarly, when it comes to vegetables, the maximum amount of magnesium can be obtained from green leafy vegetables, squash, and broccoli.
