Maple syrup constitutes a natural sweetener obtained from maple. It is generally produced with the help of the xylem sap present in red maple, sugar maple, black maple and some other varieties of maples. In the cooler climates, the maple trees accumulate starch in their roots and trunks just before the onset of the winter. This starch gets converted into sugar for the spring.
